Nevada County Media Welcomes Catherine Busch as Vice President of the Board

Grass Valley, CA – Nevada County Media is proud to announce the return of Catherine Busch to its Board of Directors as Vice President, effective immediately. Busch brings decades of experience in film, education, and nonprofit leadership—and a deep personal connection to the organization she founded in 1992.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Catherine back to the organization she founded,” said Board President Ramona Howard.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1941, Catherine’s love for storytelling began in childhood—watching movies, reading comic books, and sharing 8mm cartoons with her siblings in the garage. After joining the convent in 1962, she trained as a teacher and used films in her teaching. Her transition into nursing led her to incorporate medical photography into her work, eventually landing an internship and job in medical filmmaking.

In 1982, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA with a Master of Fine Arts in Film & Television, then directed and edited the 10-part series Cantical to the Cosmos while living in Oakland, CA. She later taught at Holy Names College and, in 1992, worked to bring public access TV to Nevada County. This evolved into FCAT in the basement of the St. Joseph’s Cultural Center, later becoming NCTV. NCTV evolved into what we have now, Nevada County Media, which incorporates the full spectrum of digital media, not just television.

Throughout her career, Catherine produced three major documentary series:

  • The Face of Wisdom – The Face of Elder Women (8-part)

  • Spirit of the Trees (6-part, Native American themes)

  • We the People (7-part), created for the California Museum between 2009 and 2019

Now, more than 30 years later, Catherine has come full circle—returning as a board leader to the very organization she helped build from the ground up.
