I Have A Dream Speech Challenge
Get your pens, laptops, and notebooks ready—this is your chance to inspire Nevada County and beyond! Nevada County Media is thrilled to announce its inaugural community-wide challenge: “I Have A Dream” Speech Challenge.
This unique challenge invites individuals to craft a speech designed to uplift and motivate the community. Participants can write about any topic close to their hearts—whether it’s unity, resilience, environmental action, or personal growth. The only rule is that speeches must not mention political figures.
“We want to encourage our community to channel their voices into messages of hope and inspiration. This is a chance for individuals to share their vision and connect with others through the power of words.”
The challenge is open to residents of all ages. Whether you’re a student, a professional, or a retiree, this is your opportunity to shine and make your voice heard.
Submission Guidelines:
Deadline: Submissions received now through March 31, 2025
Word Limit: 400 words or less
Submission Email: Send your speech to news@nevadacountytv.org
Participants will receive confirmation of their submission and details on how their speech will be shared with the community.
Selected speeches will be made available to the public through Nevada County Media’s platforms, allowing the entire community to celebrate the creativity, passion, and unique perspectives of our community.
Like Dr. King, who inspired millions and changed the course of history. Through this challenge, Nevada County Media hopes to spark the same spirit of change and connection, reminding everyone that their words can make a difference.

SMPTE - Best Practices for Live Stream Distribution
Does it seem like new streaming services are popping up almost daily? Well, you’re right; they are. And each with its own unique requirements for live streams they want to receive. All of these live stream destinations, each with its own set of variables, make it virtually impossible to automate the management of these streams.
Fortunately, a group within SMPTE has been working on an effort to try to fix this. We believe it is possible to rationalize and simplify these variables with a set of best practices. We also believe it’s possible to close some of the security holes that exist in today’s world of live stream distribution.
This SMPTE group will establish a set of Best Practices for Live Stream Distribution to simplify the process of standing up, securing, and maintaining live streams sent from content providers to streaming services. In this presentation, we’ll talk about what’s being done, who’s involved, and how to get involved.

Nevada County Now Volunteer Event
If you are looking to get involved with your community…..then this may just the thing you are looking for. Nevada County Now is our flagship project that not only delivers news to the community, but helps people learn all of the aspects of live television, and all that goes into producing it. NCM is looking for folks who are wishing to volunteer in front and behind the camera. It is the ultimate volunteer project that benefits all of the community. Simply show up and audition or chat with us about how to get involved.
Below are the positions we are seeking:
Nightly News Hosts - The “news host” role for the nightly news is the person that is delivering the information, as well as introducing and chatting with guests. We have both regular and guest host positions.
Segment Host - The “segment host” covers art, music, stage, events, sports, history, and more. Host roles include delivering information about that topic, as well as lining up guests to speak with in their particular segment.
Interview Host - This is for individuals who like doing a bit of research about people and then chatting with them about a variety of topics. These are much longer interviews than those scheduled for the nightly news and usually touch on the tougher topics.
Small Town Stories Storyteller - This is for individuals who like telling a story about a person or topic. They are the person behind story. This role helps write the copy for the stories, as well as works with the field crew to capture the story, and the editor to help record the voice-over to bring it together.
Graphics Guru - This position is for those who like creating the look of a project. The needs are fairly simple and usually require a fast turn around.
Episode Producer Trainee - If you are someone who would like to learn what it takes to put together a “live recorded” news show, well look no further. This is both rewarding and a pretty easy process.
Field Crew - If you are someone who wants to help gather b-roll or shoot field interviews, this is a fun project to volunteer your time on.
Studio Crew - If you would like to volunteer but have no clue what your doing, no worries…….NCN is a program that unites people of all skill sets. The program always needs researchers, writers, greeters, and runners.
Promotional - If you are someone who likes spreading the word, then this is a perfect project for you. It includes everything from writing promo scripts, to passing out “how to watch” cards at events.
Please do not wear green if you are coming for an on-camera screening.
Volunteers receive a free membership and hours are eligible for our volunteer swap program.
IF YOU HAVE A DESIRE TO GET INVOLVED BUT DON’T KNOW HOW YOU FIR IN, SHOW UP TO THIS CASTING CALL.
