Info for All Members:

  • Memberships 

    • Memberships are annual, which start on the date of purchase and extend one year.

    • Grandfathered individual memberships are honored IF you renew prior to expiration. 

    • Automatic renewal is required for memberships with sale pricing. All memberships include the option to auto renew.

    • Membership cancellations received within 30 days of registration are eligible to receive a full refund less 15% service fee. Cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund. Cancellations must be in writing (email is acceptable) and must be received by the stated cancellation deadline. All benefits and incentives received by the participant must be canceled/returned to Nevada County Media at the time of cancellation. Refunds will be credited back in the form of a check within one week of the requested refund.

    • All individuals utilizing the NCM facility and tools must have a membership. Non-repeat talking-head talent are considered guests and do not need a membership.

    • Business and nonprofit memberships assign one person in the organization who can take the classes and operate the equipment.

    • NCM retains the right of refusal to take on projects or to book events.

  • Facility & Equipment Use

    • Only members can request use of the equipment and facility (including exterior). Use must be pre-scheduled 3-4 days in advance. The lounge and patio can be used WITHOUT scheduling during our business hours. However, production may be occurring in those areas and it may not be quiet.

    • Members must be certified to use Studio B. Field gear training happens when the gear is checked out. Field equipment can not be used outside of Nevada County.

    • NCM reserves the right to close the facility or areas of the facility for production/event use.

    • NCM offers a variety of classes, training, and workshops for its members. Most of these are free. 

  • Using NCM Staff/Interns

    • Members can hire NCM staff at a discount to create, consult, teach one-on-one, produce, direct, edit, collaborate on your project.

    • Non members can hire NCM staff for the same items at a higher rate.

    • Members CAN NOT solicit help from the NCM interns. NCM interns can not solicit members for work.

  • Volunteering

    • In exchange for a free membership, individuals can choose to volunteer for a specific position. Applicants go through an interview process to ensure they are a good fit for the position. Volunteers receive the same perks as an individual membership and the free membership stays in place as long as the individual is volunteering.

  • Guests & Talent

    • Guests must be accompanying a current NCM member and are NOT permitted to operate or handle equipment.

    • Guests MAY NOT bring their own production equipment. 

    • Guest passes are not extended to people to just hang out, those repeatedly appearing on or helping with a program/project/show, attending production meetings, or acting as crew.

    • Guests attending as a studio audience, workshops, events or projects open to the public DO NOT need a guest pass.

    • Those visiting the museum will only be asked to make a donation for the museum entry fee. Membership not required.

  • Distribution

    • Projects must be a completed project with titles and credits. Raw footage (unless the project calls for such) is not accepted.

    • PEG content submitted to NCM can not contain a “call to action”, other content can.

    • Content given to NCM may be placed on a variety of distribution channels. These include cable, YouTube, Facebook, and more. NCM reserves the right to publish content beyond cable.

    • NCM belongs to a group of thousands of PEG access stations globally and will work with members to get their content ready for global distribution.

    • NCM requires content disclaimers placed at the beginning of submitted content that may be considered violent, mature, or controversial.

    • NCM retains the right to refuse content for distribution.

  • What is considered commercial content

    • Projects are considered commercial if they contain a sales pitch, a call to action, or demonstrating products or services.

  • Compliant Video & Audio for NCM Distribution

    • A program must contain an intro or title and some sort of credits.

    • Videos must be “available” to everyone in the community, and have an educational or entertaining element. These cannot have a commercial feel or “call to action”.

    • Programs must begin with a message advising viewer discretion if they fall into these categories: (a) TV14 includes one or more of the following: intense violence, intense sexual situations, strong coarse language, or intensely suggestive dialogue, (b) TVMA includes graphic violence, explicit sexual activity, or crude indecent language.

    • Programs CAN NOT contain any material that is libelous, slanderous, or defamatory, or that is an unlawful invasion of privacy, violates state, federal or copyright laws. Content involving community health and safety must be vetted for accuracy by local public experts in those fields. Videos political in nature MUST include representation from all parties, or they must have been invited to participate.

    • Programs submitted that contain violence, nudity, language or that is of opinion and a controversy nature MUST contain the proper messaging UPON submission.
