Volunteering for Nevada County Now
If you are looking to get involved with your community…..then this may just the thing you are looking for. Nevada County Now is our flagship project that not only delivers news to the community, but helps people learn all of the aspects of live television, and all that goes into producing it. NCM is looking for folks who are wishing to volunteer in front and behind the camera. It is the ultimate volunteer project that benefits all of the community. Simply show up and audition or chat with us about how to get involved.
Below are the positions we are seeking:
Nightly News Hosts - The “news host” role for the nightly news is the person that is delivering the information, as well as introducing and chatting with guests. We have both regular and guest host positions.
Segment Host - The “segment host” covers art, music, stage, events, sports, history, and more. Host roles include delivering information about that topic, as well as lining up guests to speak with in their particular segment.
Interview Host - This is for individuals who like doing a bit of research about people and then chatting with them about a variety of topics. These are much longer interviews than those scheduled for the nightly news and usually touch on the tougher topics.
Small Town Stories Storyteller - This is for individuals who like telling a story about a person or topic. They are the person behind story. This role helps write the copy for the stories, as well as works with the field crew to capture the story, and the editor to help record the voice-over to bring it together.
Graphics Guru - This position is for those who like creating the look of a project. The needs are fairly simple and usually require a fast turn around.
Episode Producer Trainee - If you are someone who would like to learn what it takes to put together a “live recorded” news show, well look no further. This is both rewarding and a pretty easy process.
Field Crew - If you are someone who wants to help gather b-roll or shoot field interviews, this is a fun project to volunteer your time on.
Studio Crew - If you would like to volunteer but have no clue what your doing, no worries…….NCN is a program that unites people of all skill sets. The program always needs researchers, writers, greeters, and runners.
Promotional - If you are someone who likes spreading the word, then this is a perfect project for you. It includes everything from writing promo scripts, to passing out “how to watch” cards at events.
Please do not wear green if you are coming for an on-camera screening.

Getting to Know You Commercial Recording
Don’t wait to get signed up to record your 30 second commercial.
You write the script, we do the rest. This is open to all businesses, nonprofits, and individuals in the community. NCM members are free, others pay $75. NCM will use stock music and stock images (or your supplied quality images), combined with your message to produce a simple video that you can use how you wish. This is a super economical way to get a proffessionaly produced video for your website or social media. Check out our sample

SMPTE Presentation - Creating Hybrid On-Premise and Cloud Based Media Workflows
With software based media processing tools getting more prevalent, this presentation is focused on emerging standards and practices that create solutions from multiple software solutions to be stitched together into functional workflows.
About the speaker:
Robert Erickson is the Vice President of Sales for TAG Video Systems. A member of the TAG team since 2023, he has more than 25 years of experience in the broadcast and IT markets with previous roles covering systems engineering, IT network design, and RF transmission systems. Recently, his focus has been on designing and implementing adaptable, software centric workflow tools, that can scale from on-premises solutions to worldwide, cloud-based infrastructures. Throughout his career, his focus has been on designing and maintaining live production systems based on both traditional and emerging technologies for broadcast customers.
Robert is an active participant and frequent presenter in many of the major industry associations, including the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), Society of Television Engineers (STE), Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and Hollywood Professional Association (HPA).

SMPTE Meeting - A Thought Provoking Discussion about the Wonders and Concerns of AI
AI is the greatest force of change in our industry. This presentation will explore the deep and broad implications on media workflows and the media industry. It will reveal the AI skills that we should develop and the critical decisions that need to be made regarding this evolving technology. Is AI a powerful tool for content creation and distribution or is it a dangerous replacement of human function or is it both? Is AI a pathway to utopia or dystopia? The presentation is sure to be thought-provoking and a catalyst for lively discussion.
About the speaker, Roy Folkman, CineSys.io :
Roy was raised in Creston BC Canada and graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He began his career as a maintenance technician working at Canadian Broadcast facilities and spent time as Chief Engineer of Post Haste Video in Vancouver. Roy has worked for 35 years in both sales and technical roles within the media community. In 2014 he began working as a Strategic Account Manager in the U.S. for Grass Valley. Recent roles include VP Sales North America for Embrionix and VP Sales – Americas for TAG Video Systems. He currently works for CineSys and lives in the Toronto area with his wife and son.

Hosts (on-camera) - the “host” role is the person that is delivering information to the camera, as well as introducing and chatting with guests. We have both regular and guest host positions. Host roles may include delivering the entire program, or a segment of it. It may be in or out of the studio. All people in front of the camera must do a test screening.
In-depth Interview Host (on-camera) - This is for individuals who like doing a bit of research about people and then chatting with them (on camera). It will include you working with the NC team to schedule guests. that you sit down and interview.
Narrative Storyteller (voice-over) - This is for individuals who like telling a story about a topic. They are the voice behind what the audience is seeing. This role helps write the copy for the stories, as well as recording the voice-over for them.
Graphics - This position is for those who like creating the look of a project. The needs are fairly simple and usually require a fast turn around.

The Enchanted Forest - A kids program
Enjoy the magic, wonder, and fun stories from Chris the Bard and his friends. All ages welcome, costumes encouraged. This is a fun program to bring your kids or grandkids to. Doors open at 10am, show starts promptly at 10:15. This is free!

Sports Host - This role will be crafting and delivering information about our local teams. It may include chatting with players and various athletes.
Entertainment Host - This role will be specific to music, movies, and events (we are seeking several people). This role will craft the script and deliver the information. It will cover a few up and coming items, as well as possibly engaging with a variety of individuals.
Recreation Host - This role will be writing and sharing a variety of information about our local recreation. It may include rounding up guests.
Words of Wisdom Host - This host role will be about giving the viewers a bit of information about some old school ideas and skills. This role will include writing the script.
History - This host role will include writing the script, and arranging guests if needed. It will cover only Nevada County History.
Community Spotlight Host - This is for an individual who likes doing a bit of research about people. It will include you working with the team to schedule guests.

Member & Friends Halloween Potluck
Drop in with your favorite dish and hang out with the team at NCM. This casual gathering will give you the opportunity to tour the haunted house and find out what is happening at NCM. NCM will supply the drinks, plates, etc. This event is for NCM members and their guests only.
HorrorFilms Outside
Grab a friend, a chair, snacks, and a blanket and join us for a night of fun. This year at the NCM HorrorFest (indoor haunted house) the community is invited to enjoy FREE horror films outside (weather permitting).
Films start at dusk. Purchase food from our food truck vendor OR bring your own. Purchase a ticket to the haunted house or just enjoy the parking lot fun.

Entertainment Host - This role will be specific to music, movies, and events (we are seeking several people). This role will be delivering information about up and coming items, as well as engaging with a variety of individuals.
Foodie Host - This role will be sharing information about local eateries. It may include chatting with a variety of people.
Recreation Host - This role will be sharing a variety of information about our local recreation. They will be chatting with a variety of people.
“Man-on-the-Streets” (Actually this can be a man or women) - Do you like going places? Talking to folks? Sharing information? If so, this is a super fun and easy role. Essentially you are reporting on things from the streets of the community. It may require an occosional in the studio appearance.

Breaking Down Barriers - “Belonging”: Growing up Black and Brown in Nevada County
Join us at the NCM Studio for another episode of Breaking Down Barriers, a live podcast recording that focuses on the tough topics of our community. Doors open at 11:45 am, program begins at noon. No one will be allowed in the studio after that the program begins. The recording is about 45 minutes followed by audience Q&A. Attendance is FREE and open to all.
This episode is sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation. The conversation is between Jamin Alcamo (he/him), Joselyn Zarate (she/her), and moderator, Color Me Human board member, Lolo Stone (she/her). Horror Movies Submission
On Friday & Saturday October 18th & 19th NCM will be running horror films outside (during our HorrorFest Haunted House). Submit your film for consideration.
Films can be any length between 2 & 20 minutes. Deliver as 1920x1080 mp4. Drop off or send via the method of your choice.
Thru the Lens - Local Filmmakers Showcase
Grab your date and head on over to the Del Oro theater, tonight we are showcases local filmmakers. The pre-event celebration begins on the mall just outside of the theater at 6pm. The doors will open at 6:30, films start at 7:00. Purchase your tickets online or at the door (starting at 6pm).
