FAQs

Can non-members use the facility for DIY (Do it yourself) media creation?

Unfortunately no. We are set up to be membership-based for the use. Nonmembers can attend various events and participate as talent (see guest guidelines), or hire NCM (in and outside of the facility).

Can I bring a friend to help me?

Your friend would need to be a member of NCM also.

Can I use the studio after hours?

Yes.

Who owns the content given to NCM?

You do. NCM does place the content permanently on our channels (Cable, YouTube, etc.) but you own the content to do with as you please.

Can I get help creating a series?

Yes. There are several ways you can do this. Membership is required if our team is working on series work. You do not need to be a NCM member to hire our team for other video work, but membership will save you money on your project.

Can I use the NCM facility & Gear to create videos for my business?

Yes. But there is always a fee to use the facility and gear. You will need to be a member.

Do I need cable to watch local programs?

No. NCM pushes all local content out to other platforms as well as cable. Check out the nevadacountymedia.org website / Watch Now for an easy way to view programming. NCM manages a robust YouTube channel, as well as Comcast 16, 17 & 18 and Suddenlink 16, 17, 18 & 78.

What comes with a membership?

Memberships vary but every member can use the facility and gear to create projects (see pricing). Members can attend NCM classes, workshops, and projects for free. Members can host member-led meetup groups, conduct classes (which are open to anyone in the community), as well as collaborate with NCM for a series or speaker/discussion event. Members can also use the NCM facility for various other uses.

How can I create a show?

You can volunteer with NCM and we will crew and co-produce for you at no charge, or you can hire us. These do need to be community-based non commercial shows in order to go the free route.

Will you play a video I already have done?

Yes. You can upload this from home and we will program it on cable and place it on our YouTube channel. Membership to NCM not required.

What is PEG compliant?

PEG compliant content means it CAN NOT be commercial in nature or contain a “call to action”. Content can not be is libelous, slanderous, or defamatory, be an unlawful invasion of privacy, or violates state, federal or copyright laws. Content involving community health and safety must be vetted for accuracy by local public experts in those fields.

Projects are considered commercial if the content produced is discussing or demonstrating products or services that would be considered commercial. Non PEG content can still be given to NCM for distribution on the non cable channels.
